When we run our sinks and flush our toilets, we take for granted that they are going to our septic system. But is that where your sewage actually going?
As surprising as it may sound in this day and age, many septic systems are found to be either leaking sewage, or sometimes even purposely draining sewage, where it shouldn’t go.
A good example of this is when a septic tank fails, and some people decide to fix it by letting it “daylight” to a field or off the edge of a hill.
This is a very serious situation. Blackwater is full of many contaminants that are not meant to be discharged this way. It can hurt the environment, and even cause sickness.
It is also illegal to do this in most parts of the country. Governing agencies hand out very large fines for this, and can create many legal issues for the homeowner.
So be sure you know where YOUR sewage is going.
