Many homeowners that have wells are very happy to have their own water source. They might feel like it is healthier, more reliable and cheaper, but there are some details that you need to keep in mind when it comes to well water.
First, your water might not be as clean as you think it is. You really can’t tell from the look and smell of the water. Instead, you need to send it out to a lab to have it tested and get a report on the quality.
Second, you need to protect your water source. If chemicals are spilled in the area where your well is located, they could leak down and contaminate the water. You should never park vehicles or keep machinery on top of your well.
Third, keep at least 50 feet between your septic system and your well. If water from your septic system leaks into your drinking water, serious illness could result.
