Humans produce quite a large amount of sewage in a day. Just think of how many times you run a faucet, flush a toilet, or use a shower in a day. It all adds up, and while it might not be pleasant to think about it, all that waste needs to go somewhere.

If you are using a septic system, then the sewage is your responsibility, unlike those that are connected to a municipal sewage system. This does add a few extra tasks to your home care maintenance list. A septic tank should be inspected about once every three years and pumped every five years. Of course, those numbers vary depending on the size of the tank and the size of your family.

You should also be aware of where your septic system is located since a car parked on top of the tank or driving across it could damage it.
