No one wants a clogged drain line. It is possibly one of the worst kinds of “incidents” that can happen in your home. Not only is it costly if sewage backs up, but it is seriously gross.
Clogged sewer lines happen for a lot of reasons. First of all, they are more common in vacant homes or vacation homes. That is because without a regular flow of water, the pipes have sewage that tends to dry out and build up in the pipes.
On rare occasions, pests can even get in, such as mice, squirrels, and others. This is more common in vacant and vacation homes as well. They tend to get in through the plumbing vent and make themselves a little home in your drain lines.
There are several things you can do to prevent this. First of all, have your system inspected while you are gone, or when you get back to your property before you use the water.
Also, be sure to only flush items meant to be flushed. Baby wipes, paper products (that aren’t toilet paper), facial tissues, and other items should be put in the trash instead.
